Much more than a forest

On October 7th, the exhibition that marks the closure of the Urban Forest Innovation Lab (UFIL) project was inaugurated. This project has given us the opportunity to join forces to build Dendron, and has given Cuenca a significant boost towards becoming the forestry powerhouse it should be.

In the exhibition ‘Much more than a forest,’ organized by Simbioa, there is a unique opportunity to approach the forest from the center of Cuenca through educational panels and wooden structures until October 31st. The exhibition aims to give visibility to the 44 business projects of over 100 entrepreneurs in forest bioeconomy that have emerged from UFIL, including ourselves.

A JOURNEY THROUGH THE HISTORY OF FOREST MEASUREMENT

The exhibition is accompanied by several free activities during the weekends of October, and on the 15th and 16th, it was Dendron’s turn. For several hours, anyone passing by “Much More Than a Forest” has been able to enjoy a brief chronological journey through the history of forest measurement instruments. From the first instruments created in the early 19th century in Central Europe such as the calipers or the Pressler auger, to the latest models of drones and remote sensing sensors. The exhibition also features measuring tapes, hypsometers, dendrometers, digital distance meters, high-precision RTK GPS, digital calipers, and thermal cameras. In addition to the exhibition of measurement instruments, we have been able to practice with the little ones some of the simplest measurements, such as the diameter of trees or the temperature of different surfaces.

THE FUTURE OF A PROVINCE RICH IN FORESTS

Cuenca is a province fortunate to have forests with the potential to reverse our demographic and socio-economic problems, and for Dendron, it is a pleasure to contribute our bit for Cuenca. Whether through our work with landowners and our commitment to a society that loves to see its forests healthy and prosperous, or through the approach of this sector to parents and children who were unaware of the beauty of this lovely profession.

Don’t stop loving nature, visiting its forests, and respecting all the species that live in them, both animals and plants. Because all species (including Homo sapiens, humans) make up the ecosystems that maintain the balance necessary for the survival of our societies. When that ecological balance is lost, we also lose a part of ourselves.
