Description of the WOOD4LIFE Project

WOOD4LIFE is a European initiative that seeks to revitalize and strengthen the forest-wood value chain through sustainable forest management practices, thus contributing to mitigating climate change. Its main objective is not only to improve the use of forest resources but also to promote the use of wood-derived products as long-term natural carbon storage, helping to reduce the carbon footprint in Europe.

With a duration of four years, from September 2024 to August 2028, WOOD4LIFE is supported by the LIFE Program of the European Union, one of the most important funds for environmental projects on the continent. This funding will allow the development of innovative technologies and business models that ensure the sustainability of the forestry sector.WOOD4LIFE focuses on Castilla-La Mancha (Spain) as the main implementation area, where concrete actions and tests of new practices will be carried out. Additionally, the project has replication areas in the Appennino Tosco-Emiliano National Park in Italy, thus expanding its impact and exploring approaches that adapt to different forest environments in Europe.

The Launch Meeting: An Important Milestone

On October 8 and 9, 2024, the WOOD4LIFE project held its launch meeting at the Urban Forest Innovation Lab (UFIL) in Cuenca, Spain. This inaugural event brought together representatives from all partner organizations, marking a fundamental step in coordinating and aligning the project’s objectives from the beginning.

The Ministry of Sustainable Development of Castilla-La Mancha, as host and organizer of the event, facilitated the meeting between partners from Spain and Italy, consolidating a key collaboration network to ensure the project’s success.

This first encounter allowed not only the exchange of ideas but also the establishment of a shared vision among participants, creating a solid foundation for cooperation on critical issues such as carbon capture, biodiversity conservation, and forest resilience.
